Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about using Skillnote.

Account

Q: How can I sign up?

A: You can sign up directly with an email address, or use Google login or GitHub login for a quick start. Social login lets you get started right away using an existing account — no separate password required.

A: Currently, Google login, GitHub login, and email login are managed as separate accounts. Please continue signing in with the method you chose when you first signed up.

Q: I forgot my password.

A: On the login screen, click “Forgot your password?” and a verification code will be sent to the email address you registered with. Enter the code and set a new password. See Sign Up & Log In for more details.

Note: Accounts registered via GitHub or Google social login cannot set or reset a password within Skillnote. Manage the password through the respective social account provider.

Q: I want to delete my account.

A: You can request account deletion from the “Account” tab on the settings page. Please note that deleting your account permanently removes all your posts, comments, and review data — this action cannot be undone.

Posts

Q: When are AI review questions generated after I write a post?

A: AI question generation begins asynchronously when you publish a post. Questions are typically ready shortly after publishing. You can view generated questions in the Review tab of your post — they will also be included in upcoming review sessions.

Q: Are review questions generated for private posts too?

A: Yes, the AI generates review questions for private posts as well. The private setting only prevents other users from seeing the post — it does not affect the review feature.

Q: What happens to existing questions when I edit a post?

A: Editing a post does not affect previously generated questions — they remain as-is. If the content changes significantly, the AI may generate additional new questions.

Q: Is my draft saved automatically?

A: Yes, content you write in the editor is auto-saved as a draft. Even if you close the browser or accidentally navigate away, your draft will be waiting for you when you return.

Reviews

Q: How are review questions scheduled?

A: Review questions are delivered at optimal intervals based on a Spaced Repetition algorithm. The intervals grow progressively from the post’s publish date — 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, and so on. In the Review tab, you can see the current stage as a hint such as “Day 1 Review”, “Day 3 Review”, or “Week 1 Review”.

Q: What happens if I skip today’s review?

A: Skipped questions will be presented again in the next review session. Reviewing consistently every day is the most effective way to build long-term retention.

Q: The AI grading doesn’t seem accurate.

A: AI grading works semantically and accepts synonyms and similar expressions. However, answers written in a highly creative or unconventional way may be classified as a “creative answer.” When the AI has difficulty grading, treat the provided answer as a reference.

Q: How is the difficulty level of a review question determined?

A: The AI analyzes the complexity of the post content and the importance of each concept, then automatically assigns a difficulty level from 1 to 5. The difficulty badge is visible on each Q&A card in the Review tab.

Q: What types of review questions are there?

A: The AI generates various question types based on the post content. A question type badge is displayed on each Q&A card. Question types go beyond simple recall — application-type questions are also included to help you practice applying concepts to real-world situations.

PDF Upload

Q: What types of PDF files are supported?

A: Standard PDF files containing text are supported. Scanned PDFs that consist entirely of images may have limited text extraction.

Q: Can I upload PDFs on the Free plan?

A: Attempting to upload a PDF on the Free plan will show an upgrade prompt modal. PDF upload is a Plus and Pro plan feature. See the Subscription documentation to compare plans.

Q: I got an error while uploading a PDF.

A: If an error occurs during PDF processing, check the following:

  • Confirm the file is not corrupted
  • Confirm you have not exceeded the page limit for your subscription plan
  • Check your internet connection
  • Verify the file opens correctly in another PDF viewer

If the issue persists, please contact the Skillnote team.

Q: I closed the page while a PDF was uploading.

A: No worries. The next time you open Skillnote, a recovery dialog will appear, allowing you to resume the interrupted PDF processing.

Q: Can I switch to dark mode?
