Onboarding
Onboarding
When you first sign up for Skillnote, an onboarding checklist screen is displayed. Follow the four steps in order to experience Skillnote’s core features firsthand.
Onboarding Screen Layout
The top of the onboarding screen shows:
- Large heading: “Ready to get started?”
- Subtitle: “Welcome! It’s time to set up your [Blog Name] learning blog.”
Each step is listed as a checklist item. Click the arrow button on the right side of a step to proceed. Completed steps display a green checkmark. Progress is automatically saved to your browser’s local storage, so completed steps persist even after a page refresh.
4-Step Onboarding Checklist
Step 1: Create Your Skillnote Account
This step is automatically marked complete the moment you finish signing up. There’s nothing extra to do — when you arrive at the checklist, it already shows a green checkmark.
Step 2: Explore the Post Editor
- Description: “Discover a writing experience built for learning.”
- Clicking the arrow button takes you to the post editor page.
- Skillnote’s editor is built for recording what you learn. Try it out — write in Markdown, add tags, and let AI automatically generate review questions.
Step 3: Create a Tag
- Description: “Organize your posts with tags.”
- Clicking the arrow button takes you to the tag management page.
- Create tags to neatly categorize and browse your posts by topic.
Step 4: Share Your Blog
- Description: “Share your blog with the world.”
- Clicking the arrow button takes you to your dashboard and simultaneously marks onboarding as complete.
- Share your blog address (
skillnote.io/your-user-tag) on social media, your portfolio, your resume, and anywhere else.
After Completing Onboarding
Once you complete all four steps, the onboarding checklist is no longer shown and you can use Skillnote freely.
Here are a few recommended first activities after completing onboarding:
- Write your first post: Click the “New Learning Post” button in the sidebar to record what you learned today. Once you save the post, AI will automatically generate review questions.
- Visit the Explore page: Browse other users’ learning records from the “Explore” menu in the sidebar and find inspiration.
- Check Today’s Review: Starting the day after you write a post, AI review questions will be ready in the “Today’s Review” section on your home dashboard.
Need Help?
At the bottom of the onboarding screen there is a “Have more questions? Check the docs.” link. This guide covers detailed explanations of all Skillnote features.
