Create a Post
Create a Post
This guide walks you through writing a learning post in Skillnote. Once you publish, Skillnote AI automatically analyzes the content and generates review questions.
Opening the Editor
There are two ways to start a new post.
- Sidebar: Click the New Learning Post button in the left sidebar.
- Home quick-start: Select Write from the quick-start card on the home screen.
Both options navigate to /posts/newpost and open the Notion-style editor.
Editor Layout
The editor page is divided into two main areas.
Editing Area
The wide central space where you write your post’s title and body.
- Title field: Located at the top of the page. Enter your post title here.
- Body area: Write freely below the title. You can use the slash menu (
/), floating toolbar, drag handles, and other editing tools.
For a detailed look at editor capabilities, see the Editor Features Guide.
Right Sidebar
An options panel for configuring post metadata. You can manage the following:
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Visibility toggle | Choose between Public or Private. |
| Tags | Add tags to your post for organization and search. |
Writing Workflow
Step 1: Write Your Title and Body
Enter your post title in the title field, then write your learning content in the body area. Use the editor’s formatting tools to structure your content.
Step 2: Choose Visibility
Use the visibility toggle in the right sidebar to set who can see your post.
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Public | Anyone can view the post from your profile. |
| Private | Only you can see it. |
Step 3: Add Tags (Optional)
In the tags section of the right sidebar, add tags that fit your post. Tags help you search and categorize posts later.
Step 4: Publish or Save as Draft
When you’re done writing, use the buttons in the top-right corner to choose how to save.
| Button | Action |
|---|---|
| Publish | Publishes the post immediately. The button changes to Publishing… while in progress. |
| Save Draft | Saves your work as a draft. You can pick up where you left off from the Drafts tab on the Manage Posts page. |
Tip: The editor autosaves as you write. Even if you accidentally close the tab, your draft will be preserved.
AI Review Question Generation After Publishing
When you publish a post, Skillnote AI automatically runs the following steps asynchronously in the background:
- Analyze the post content
- Extract key concepts and facts
- Generate spaced-repetition review questions
Question generation may not complete immediately after publishing. Check back shortly — you’ll find the generated questions in the Review tab.
Writing Tips for Better Review Questions
Follow these guidelines to help AI generate more accurate and useful questions.
- State key concepts clearly. Sentences in the form “A is B” tend to produce good questions.
- Include concrete examples. Specific examples help both understanding and question generation more than abstract descriptions.
- Keep a reasonable length. Too short may not yield any questions; too long may dilute the focus.
- Stick to one topic. Covering one subject in depth is more effective than skimming multiple topics.
- Write a specific title. A clear title helps AI understand your content better.
Tip: Writing as if you’re explaining today’s learning in your own words helps AI generate better questions.
